1. Printing is limited to AirPrint compatible HP models.
WTF, Apple?

2. I'm sure it will expand over time. Remember iTunes didn't
have many publishers at first.

3. Right, but it's seeming to require this proprietary hardware
I'd prefer to use the wi-fi compatible printer I already have, rather than buy another $100 to $150 printer just to use with the iPad/iPod. But that's our boy Steve, always moving away from compatibility.

Unless they integrate a wi-fi option (which seems like the obvious first choice), even some retrofit box is going to cost at least $50 and probably still not be fully compatible.

Plus, the few reviews I've seen of these HP printers have been bad.

4. I have a dead hp sitting on my desk right now.
I have tried to get multitasking to work, but it isn't activating.

5. From what I have read, Apple is pushing driverless printing.

6. A couple things and a couple solutions

There has been a rumor sited to several sources that Apple had to drop the shared printer AirPrint do to a patent squatter. It makes a lot of since.

You can still enable AirPrint via a very quick and easy hack (Mac and PC): http://mobiputing.com/2010/11/how-to-enable-airprint-for-mac-or-windows-printers/

Here is a free 10.6 app that does it too: http://netputing.com/2010/11/21/airprint-hacktivator-v1-6/
