HELP, Can't afford the $1000 27" Apple Monitor.
I have a 13" macbook pro and use it exclusively for everything including watching TV (don't own one), watching movies, and live streaming video's. I would love the 27" apple monitor but can not afford it. Does anyone have a cheaper solution. Thanks in advance.

1. LED monitor prices have come way down. I think you can get 27-28" led monitors
in the $250-350 range

Here's a merchant-site where you can read lots of consumer reviews; their prices are often, but not always, good:

http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=20&name=LCD-Monitors

The potentially sucky-thing about using a non-apple monitor with an apple machine is apple's rotten attitude towards connectors: it's possible, depending on your machine, that you might need to spend $50 to buy an adaptor from apple to connect a non-apple monitor

I run one of my macs with two monitors off the graphics card, an apple cinema and a 22" INC. I've never had problems

2. Using a 20-inch HP monitor (and a four-dollar DVI-VGA adaptor) with my Mac Mini

even as we speak.

On my dear departed G3, I had an LG monitor (recommend), and before that, an eMachines.

Shouldn't set you back more than $400.

3. I've got a 24" LG that I use in tandem with my iMac, and it works great for me.

4. You don't need a Mac monitor with a Mac
I got an off-brand 19" monitor for $279 back when I still had my first-generation MacBook.

It still works great, and all I had to do was get a new adapter when I bought a new MacBook.

The Apple Store won't tell you that, but the little independent Apple retailer here in town did let me in on the secret.
