going to get some chepo phone with Virgin Mobile and use my 3G like an ipod.

I heard that it was possible, but I just wanted to check with you mac experts here.

will I still be able to update the software in itunes?

WiFi will still work, right?...and I can sync calendar and pics, music, etc...?

2. yes
You can use your old phone as an iPod Touch.

Google "old iPhone as iPod touch" and there's plenty of articles on it. Though it seems a tad excessively complex on occasion, as the iTunes app is geared towards getting you a working phone connection.

There's also an Apple knowledge base article on it -- http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3406

3. Absolutely yes.
When Mr. Tesha finally upgrades his now-ancient
iPhone 3G, that's exactly what will become of it:
it will become an iPod. Remember: it still has
internet connectivity so long as you're within
a WiFi "bubble" (like our house).

5. yes, you can
go to the app store and download a free app called TalkaTone.

Sign up for a free Gmail account and you will have a free wifi phone. I use it all the time with my iPod Touch.
