How DO you manage that "Other" category on the iPod Touch?
In iTunes, when you look at the device summary page, there's an "Other" category. Internet posts indicate that this category vastly ranges in size, from a few hundred megabytes to six gigabytes or more.

However, what nobody seems to know is how to manage what's in that category. iTunes is certainly no help; it doesn't have any way at all to even browse the files represented by that yellow bar. There's no indication anywhere about what it actually is.

Most users and Apple geeks say it's things like album art, cached Safari pages, things apps put there, temporary files, and the like. I don't think that's the case at all- my iPod library is static and small and I rarely use it to browse the web, nor do I run apps with any frequency (though I do have many installed). It has always been thus, too, since the day I bought it, and that "Other" category has always nonetheless ended up bloating like a dead fish (currently 1.42 GB and rising).

Is there any solution other than restoring the device? How do I manage that "Other" category when it gets too big?
