18. Thanks, Spike. I think our biggest problem in Georgia, Florida, Texas

and probably other Southern states is the constant immigration of Republicans from the MidWest and North to our states. We have jobs here but for some reason we get rapid RWers more than anybody else. We need many more progressives moving here.

13. The red state bashing was getting pretty old

I loved that shaded red to blue (mostly purple) map of all counties posted last week. It's sometimes tough when you think you're surrounded by the sharks. We really aren't though. Some states that get painted red probably vary from those painted blue by only a few percentage points.

and I'm glad we southerners now have a forum just for us. I'm a native southerner. I welcome progressive immigrants to the south to join us here. The south has its problems but there are great things about it also. Let's start with the weather. You can't beat four real seasons!

not this hot when I was a kid. But I love having four seasons, especially when the leaves are still as lovely as they are now. I'm in NW GA, BTW.

21. Believe it or not

I was raised before air conditioning was commonplace. Still to this day, I cannot bring myself to use it unless I have guests coming over (and I must wear a sweater). My fondest memories of my childhood were laying in bed at night listening to the squeaking of the attic fan and feeling the breeze flowing over me.
I am from Columbia, SC, a place which is hot and humid. However, I currently reside in the upstate region of SC where the heat is not so bad; at least in my opinion.

23. I'm a progressive native of the South.

Lived in NE Georgia for 17 years prior to 1992. Gainesville, to be exact. Horrible little community..not on the surface, but scratch it's underbelly and it's full of fleas. It's got some good people too..no denying that.

I do miss the mountains and the 4 actual seasons.
I miss lazy days of summer and the slower pace even when you're in a hurry.

I miss children that say "ma'am" and "sir"

I miss people who understand that "Sir?" and "Ma'am?" means to please repeat.

I speak fluent southern and don't plan to change that...

I carry a mason jar of Georgia red clay with me on all my travels.
