Easing back into cooking
I had a package of German sausages made at a local, private butcher shop. The guy is from Ireland and he smokes his own meats. Beef is all from Nebraska. Quality products.

Also, I got some roasted sweet red peppers at a local fruit and veggie market that's open during summer. They roast all sorts of hot peppers outdoors. These sweet peppers didn't pick up heat but a little flavor from jalapenos roasted in the same drum.

So I fried some onions, added the German sausage and sweet peppers and then chunks of sweet potato. We like dinner-in-a-bowl meals.

And in an hour or so the Dalai Lama wil be on Larry King. Today is sort of a comfort day.

1. Which shop??
I've been desperately seeking a butcher. Herb's quality is plummeting, and by the end of the month, coming out to Saxx's will no longer be practical. (Though their bacon is to die for.... )

If yours is someone I would pass in my monthly travels.... and you don't mind sharing....

3. It's Edward's Meats
He's on 44th in Wheat Ridge across from the big truck stop at 44th and Youngfield. So, it's a ways down for you, I think. But if you ever get down here to this area, do stop in. It's easy to miss it, though. The store is set back a little bit and shares a parking lot with a small nursery.

Just east of there a few blocks on the north side of 44th is Heinie's Market where I shop for fruits and veggies. They do the roasted peppers and sell stuff by the bushel. They usually close up after the first freeze.

5. Mmmm... roasted peppers.
We're using Palizzi's right now (Brighton) since we're still out here until I get the Boulder County house finished again. Last week of September is moving day. (Flooring. Ick. And paint. And molding. And plumbing. Why, oh why could I not have married someone who, when faced with a bonus or extra money, have gone and blown it on a 19 year old or a flashy car???? Why did I marry into Home Improvement??) I have no idea where I will get my pepper fix once we're back in Boulder County, though. I have not found either a roaster, or for that matter a farmer's market worth the name. (It isn't a farmer's market when Whole Foods is cheaper and has more organics....)

Anyway.... Yes, that's a bit out of the way. Oh, well. I'll see if I can get RTD to cough up a schedule that gets me down there. I do that for the Asian grocery in LoDo.

(we now return you to non Denver Metro programming...)

7. There's always those big trucks that come up from Arizona
We'll see them around from now till frost and then some. Keep your eyes open for one sitting along the roads. I wouldn't be surprised if you saw one along The Diagonal or definitely in Longmont. That might be closer.

4. That sounds so good.
I've got a package of a cajun style sausage that's not supposed to be too hot. The beans and rice might help smooth out any heat.

9. Sounds good to me
I can't handle really spicy foods. Smoked sausage is very mild and doesn't disagree with me. This is one of our favorite fast and easy meals-in-bowl.

6. Oh my goodness!
That sounds fantastic.

This is my first foray into C&B since Katrina struck. It's nice to be here again.

8. DH & I went to the farmer's market this Saturday.
The first vendor was roasting peppers in a great big drum. The smell was heavenly.

12. I cooked today for the first time since Katrina.
Roast chicken. Like you were saying, comfort food. I had to concentrate extra hard not to burn myself. I still managed to smash a glass off the counter accidentally. Grief makes me clumsy.
