anybody ever freeze store bought frosting?
we like our sweets, but can never get through a 9x13 cake before it gets yucky

i'm thinking I can bake cupcakes and freeze half of them but the frosting can only live in the fridge for a few days. anyone ever tried freezing those tubs of frosting? what results did you get?

thanks in advance!

1. I don't see why it wouldn't be ok frozen
I make frosted cakes and cup cakes and freeze them all the time. The frosting survives. I would imagine it would survive off the cake as well.

3. how do you protect the frosting in the freezer? that would be the easiest
method, just make em all and freeze some of them

4. Here's what I do
Pop em in the freezer on a tray until they get hard. Then put them in zip locks or wrap in foil. If the frosting is already frozen, the wrapping won't squish it.

2. I haven't tried it, but my mom always did.
And I don't recall there being any changes in texture or taste, as long as it's well-sealed.

5. I've frozen frosted cupcakes with great success
Dunno how well frosting in a tub would fare, though, since I don't know how much liquid they put into it.

I've frozen homemade frosting just fine.

6. No, but I have, in secret, sat down with a can of it and a spoon...
and OMG you do not want to know the rest

AND, I keep a secret can of it hidden for just such emergencies...they are RARE (every couple of years) but they happen

:)
