White Asparagus

Well, I just got home from TJ's and they had my all time favorite veggie, White Asparagus. Now I'm an asparagus nut...but the creamy mild flavor of the white ones are just amazing. Something about depriving them of sunlight just makes them more succulent.

I'm going to saute some crimini mushrooms with some turkey tenders and pig out on these little babies tonight. Shoot I may even have to open a bottle of wine.

1. I've made them for my wife

and she loved it (had never seen it before, either).

Myself, I can't stand asparagus, so I'll forgo the pleasure, but she really liked it.

If you want to have a color fest, try pairing it with yellow watermelon.

2. The asparagus we grow in our garden tastes totally different

than any I've ever eaten. Maybe it's the red Georgia clay, but it has a much bolder, full-bodied asparagus taste. Everyone raves about it. Unfortunately the season is too short and there's never enough to freeze, although I may reserve a bit this year to pickle.

The last time I bought white asparagus, it was tough and tasteless, but it had probably been sitting around too long.
