My bread machine is malfunctioning.

Actually it is the bread pan that has issues.

I added my ingredient to the pan, set the machine, but left it open so I could adjust the ingredients. I noticed that the machine stopped mixing after the first few minutes. I pulled the dough out of the pan and examined the machine. The machine is running fine, but the paddle in the pan is locked up. Totally immobile. Won't move, not at all. I can't figure out what the problem is. The pan looks fine visually.

Anyway, I am snack mom for my daughters preschool tomorrow, and snack was going to be bread, so if anyone has a suggestion about how to fix it, I would be most appreciative.

1. you can probably finish kneading it by hand and bake in the oven

but is the paddle stuck cuz it's gunked with dough, or is the gear that drives it stuck or what?

3. I dunno.

It's not the paddle, and I lubricated the exterior part of the mechanism on the bottom that I could reach. No dice. I tried to pry it open, but couldn't get the little dowidget that holds the housing on the bottom off. I will let my husband have a go at it later.

It doesn't seem to have burned the engine of the bread machine out, so maybe the best bet is to purchase a new bread pan.

2. You'll have to open the case and start to pick it apart

to figure out what has bound the paddle under the pan.

In the meantime, just mix and knead the dough by hand. If you don't have bread pans, you can do free form round or oblong loaves on a cookie sheet dusted with cornstarch or (if you have it) bake it in a coffee can.

4. I tossed the dough.

I know, naughty me, but I barely felt up to the bread machine today. I rarely use the mixer for bread so I am not real familiar with the steps. I need to do that on a day when my kids aren't running around and screaming like chipmunks on crack, realy learn the process, before I start trying to toss it off on a weekday.

I will have the hubby hit the grocery on the way home. I am sure there is something lovely in the bakery department that the preschool teachers will adore. :)

5. Update

I called the manufacturer. The pan is kaput, but on the bright side, the machine is still warrantied, so they will send me a new one at no cost.
