Grapples?
So I'm at the store yesterday, buying some apples, and I see this plastic container with 4 apples in it and the label says "Grapple -- Tastes like grapes!"

And I'm debating whether to try them. And I'm trying to imagine what an apple that tastes like a grape would taste like.

And I conclude that it probably tastes just like an apple.

Am I wrong? Should I have tried them? It was 3.99 for a set of 4.

1. DON'T DO IT! For the LOVE of GOD and ALL that is HOLY!!!
My brother worked in a grapple factory for three days. I'm not kidding. Grapples are apples that have been soaked in a flavor solution. He said it was one of the most nighmarish day labor experience he's ever had.

Step away from the Grapples - they aren't meant to be. If nature meant for Grapples, they would grow on trees.

3. You have convinced me
I had no idea! It wouldn't even have occurred to me that it was possible for them to commit such evil on an apple!

2. They taste like Grape Koolaid flavored apples
Eat a grape or eat an apple. Or you can make a grape/apple salad. Grapples are filled with chemicals, don't taste "real" and are expensive. What's the point?

4. Ewww. I'm so glad I passed, and so glad to have learned
what these really are.

I was just confused as to how a grape and apple differ in taste, I just couldn't really imagine it. But then, apple juice and grape juice don't taste the same, unless it's white grape juice, and then it's pretty close to apple.

5. Thanks also for warning me
I was thinking that was some hybrid thing. Instead, when I want to send some special apples to my apple fans, it will be Honey Crisp and Pink Lady.

6. I was dumb enough to buy some last year.
The curiosity got the best of me and I paid a premium price for them when I could have gotten lots more apples for the same price. My conclusion? They taste like....APPLES. Not even as good as the apples I usually buy. I think I ended up tossing two of them.

Had never seen them before, was interested by didn't bite - now I'm REALLY glad that I didn't. Thanks so much, Dotcosm, for asking the question, and to DU for always being such a great source of information.
