21. Dumbass me...
I left my wok behind when I moved. Now I will have to go read the Wok Wars thread.

Also, can we start a Bamboo Steamer war? Cuz I need to get a new one of those too.

24. I know what you mean
I suffered with electric for 18.5 years in a rental house. 8 years ago, we moved, and I bought the cheapest gas stove Circuit City had. I love it! I hope I never have to turn on another electric stove.

I think there was a flame war on DU about Rachel Ray once, but I don't think it took place here.

11. Closest I saw was a contretemps over woks
with the more experienced Chinese cooks opting for the cheapest Chinatown specials out there and some of the wannabes going for the wooden handles and stainless steel (or, shudder, electric).

12. What's wrong with an electric wok? How dare you!
Just kidding :)

I was part of that particular dust-up. But I also recall there was more laughing than hurt feelings.

Thankfully this corner of DU has always been a safe place whenever a storm brews.

17. And it started from someone asking for a little bit of advice, too!
But it hardly rated on the richter scale. What we would call dustups would be a friendly exchange of ideas in GD!

23. LOL
I started that wok discussion by buying a wok with a wooden handle and plastic coating on another part. I think it was a pleasant disagreement.

BTW, the wok came with the wooden handle not yet attached. I haven't gotten around to seasoning and using it yet.

27. I'm so glad that it will work out!
Then you got a great deal with being able to season it in the oven!

Btw, I was thinking about you and that wok the other day. I used my very old wok to make dinner. It was so darned groady looking that after dinner I scrubbed it with a Brillo pad. Yup - suds it up good, rinsed it and quick put it on the stove over a flame to dry. It survived, has no rust and frys beautifully. Go figure!

30. In all honestly I DID see a flame war once about cooking.
However on "gardenweb.com" The argument was the virtue of a Bluestar cooktop versus a Wolf. Twas a scary thang.

We have an electronic BB at work, and one of the worst flame wars was about whether or not you have to put cheese in a quesadilla.
