Love it or hate it?

1. Cilantro aka Fresh Coriander

I can tolerate it if it is used sparingly, I never add it to recipes myself. I do like Coriander seed a lot. :thumbsdown:

2. It's like any strong herb, essential to some dishes and awful

in others. There are quite a few herbs I don't like by themselves, and cilantro is one of them.

However, if you want one to hate, try epazote. It's horrible smelling stuff that a lot of folks think smells like gasoline.

However, what it does to a pot of black beans is magical.

I could eat cilantro alone by the bunch ;)

I use it alot in my indian and mexican recipes.. plus, I put it in hummus.. add it to potato leek soup, chop it into salads.. etc.

5. I couldn't vote honestly ....

Cuz I absolutely LOVE it ..... but ONLY in the right dish.

The hard part of the voting was that to me it isn't just'okay' in the right dish. In most cases, it kinda IS the dish. And for that I love it .... but only when it belongs where you find it.

6. I used to hate it

Over time, I came to learn that it's really necessary for certain dishes. I use it sparingly. But I couldn't eat a single leaf on its own. To me, it always smells like something going bad.

On sandwiches, in soups, salads, as a replacement for parsley...

I'd rather have cilantro than rosemary.

And then, there's tarragon....

9. i fall into the "Ok in the right dish" group

it's fine in salsa and gazapacho and i'll probably plant some in the new herb garden but it's one of those "take it or leave it" things for me

11. I put it in my homemade chili, and also in green chili stew..yum

it also adds a wonderful kick to curried lentils, tortilla soup, black bean soup

and of course salsa.

13. It is somewhat common in Chinese dishes, too....

In Hawaii, it is called "Chinese parsley". I LOOOOOVE it.

dishes. I grow it, too.

I just made some hummus with cilantro. It's good in all sorts of dishes.

16. Mexican, and Asian cuisine

My last foray tried a bunch in homemade fried rice, yummy!
I like it in any Mexican or Chinese cuisine, and it's just as yummy floating in a bowl of pho!
