1. I've never been to Argentina, but .....
.... recently had the pleasure of dinner in an Argentine restaurant. The menu was unusual in that you pay a set price and for this, you get a buffet of saladas, veggies and seafood. Then they bring an assortment of 25 different meats to the table, each on sword-sized skewers and carve the meat for you at the table.

Beef, beef, and more beef, all from Aregntina.

While I thoroughly enjoyed it, my stomach was pissed at me for a few days! :)

2. I had dinner several years ago in an Argentinian restaurant in,
of all places, Tel Aviv, Israel. So, so good, though I couldn't even imagine doing that daily. Why don't Argentinians weigh a ton?

3. Darwin wrote about eating meat in Argentina
He said that was all they ate for days. He got to the point where he didn't want to look at beef.

4. In Buenos Aires in the late sixties,
I lived on beef for more than a month. It was the best I've ever had, better even - very different - than Kobe beef.

It was not just the meat, which was fabulous, but the grass-fed steaks and asado were accompanied by roasted vegetables long before they were popular anywhere else. Chunks of corn-on-the-cob that were called, as I recall, cholco, big kernels, half-an-inch wide and sweet as could be. Roasted sweet potatoes, white potatoes.

Here in NoVa, there's a place called Malibu Grill which sounds like the place H2S went to, except it's based on Brazilian cuisine and is called a churrascaria. Lots and lots of meat, carved at your table, and accompanied by far more American side dishes. I like it.

But, it's not Buenos Aires, alas.

5. We just returned from Argentina and Uruguay and
we had the steaks in the meat market in Montevideo. I cannot remember the last time I ate beef, let alone steak--maybe 15 years--but it was absolutely exquisite.
