I actually BOUGHT bread today
I have been making all our bread for months, but we're heading to Carlsbad to check out properties Friday and I just didn't want to make two loaves before we left

it was strange, wonder how it will taste.....

1. I wonder
how it's going to muck up your innards. Watch out.

I lived on white bread for the past many weeks - lots of sandwiches and stuff - and it was just like ingesting paste. Ugh.

2. I know that feeling...
I occassionally buy a specialty bread at Costco - the demi-baguettes or croissants or something that I don't make.

When we rarely buy a pre-sliced loaf, I always get confused and go looking for the knife before I get out the bread, and usually our carb-addict of a cat will tear through the bag and eat half of the loaf. (Which is funny, because she's a tiny thing, and that much bread makes her look like a basketball on toothpicks. Stupid cat.)

Good luck on the trip - I hope you find the Perfect Property (any thoughts about putting a modular house on foundation/basement for it?)

Sandwiches and fruit and veggies are your friends. And dipey wipes.

5. Post them here.
If you post them in the lounge, I will never see them. The lounge moves so dang fast.

7. Maybe.
You could post about all the great local food you had on the trip and post the pics in with that. :D Or do both groups. A lot of us spend time in both, but I think C&B is more active.

11. I'd say it is a home improvement thing.
But that's me.

Hope you'll forgive me - I peeked at the MLS listings for Carlsbad. There's some neat property for not a lot of money in that area. If our lives didn't absolutely depend on high tech and the computer industry, I might be looking a little harder at that area.

Still, good luck. Scouting can be as hard as the buying.

17. In store bakeries are the best bet
and a whole lot cheaper than that commercial stuff that was baked gawd knows how long ago and is dated to sit on the shelf for another two weeks.

In store bakeries use fewer preservatives, though, so be prepared for blueberries on it if you don't eat it quickly.

19. Yeah, hairy ones, all over the loaf
Sorry, I just knew an old grocer in Boston who used to examine stuff as it passed the register to make sure it was up to his standard. He'd examine pita bread especially (most prone to early spoilage) and go "Aaah, you don't want this one, deah, it's got blueberries!"

I've always used that expression since and I mourn his passing, along with all the other old greengrocers who worked in dark stores and knew every inch of them as well as every bit of their stock, who cut their own meat and trimmed their own veggies.

My wisecrack is a tribute to him and keeps part of him alive.
