So, what did you have tonight?

1. Sorry for flaking out on you.

Earlier today I went to an early birthday lunch with one of my mothers-in-law. (both in-laws are divorced and remarried) I was tied up with that and various errands.

I mystery shop and after I picked the boys up from school I had two grocery shops to do. Usually I can do them in a flat twenty minutes to a half hour but with two boys it took me several hours to do and get home. Hubby made supper while I wrote up my shops. It is only within the last hour or so I have even been on the internet.

Supper? Quite boring. We have grilled marinated chicken breasts. We had CANNED spinach and CANNED peas!!! I have gotten so use to fresh veggies but I am happy that hubby cooked while I wrote up my shops. Tomorrow should be much better and hopefully not so boring.

2. Hi Demgurl

In NYC,
there's a park called Madison Square Park.

In MSP, there's a stand called 'Shake Shack".

It's typical burger, fries, hot dog etc kiosk,
but the secret is
that it's creation of Danny Meyer. Danny owns 5 of NYC's best and most popular restaurants.
Shack Shake, though seemingly nothing more than a fast food stand in the park, is unbelivably good.


So, I kind of had what I had last night,
but it was so much better:
Cheese Burger
Fries
Iced Coffee

My dog had a pooch-ini ---That's a Shake Shack doggie sundae !

9. Karenca......

a mystery shopper is someone who is hired by a company to evaluate a business and their level of customer service.

For example, last night I was doing grocery stores. Some of the things I was asked to evaluate were the landscape, cleanliness of the foyer, supply level and cleanliness of the bathroom and whether certain sales items were in stock. (one item from the dairy/frozen area, deli, meat, produce and one from the main area of the store - I pick which items this will be) I also ask one associate where an item is to see if he escorts me to the item, asks if I need any additional help and thanks me. I evaluate a bagger as well as a cashier.

I think my favorite shop is a restaurant and they do not even pay your full meal! It is The Melting Pot. It is so expensive that hubby and I only go, on our own, about twice a year. I check, with tip, usually nears a $100 every single time so it is a nice little chuck of change to eat there. The mystery shop people pay $50 toward your meal. We would eat there anyway and sometimes we even have a coupon to bring down the price of the meal. The write up is pretty easy so we do that whenever we get a chance.

Most restaurant shops pay for your meal. (they do tell you what to buy or what to keep the price under) Grocery stores usually pay a small amount toward groceries and a bigger amount for your pay. With apartment shops it is all money since no products have to be bought. Apartments are pretty easy. You make an appointment to see an apartment and then go and get a tour of the place.

I have been doing this for almost 20 years now and I love it. I do not have a job so I figure I could be home sitting on my butt or doing something useful with my time. You will never get rich from mystery shopping but you can try new things and go to businesses you have never visited before. I really enjoy my "job".

4. We went to Sweetie's parents' tonight for her Grandmas birthday.

(Her Mom is an AWESOME cook, btw.)
We had some pork shortribs- you could cut them with a butter knife.
Baked potatos and her signature spinach/mushroom salad- I'm stuffed!

Sweetie, being vegetarian, got her own walnut-gorgonzola torte.

Of course, a homemade yellow cake w/chocolate frosting for dessert.

And her Dad opened a nice bottle of red wine, but I couldn't
tell you what type it was. The entire label was in Italian,
and it didn't have any words (like "chianti") that I actually recognized.

It tasted like a smooth cab/merlot blend might...maybe 2/3 merlot, or so.

6. Comfort food...

Stuffed peppers and mashed potatoes. Yummy.

7. frozen pizza

we built the deck furniture today and had to go pick up fencing this after noon

I got a chance to run the dishwasher but got NOTHING else done in the house. :cry:

8. Leftover homemade split pea soup and

grilled cheese sandwiches. Boring, but I needed room in my fridge :-).

10. We went out and had Mexican...

...as we had to pick up Himself at the airport at 7:00 PM. Our favorite restaurant between airport and home was full with a Friday night rush, so we went down the street and tried a new (to us) Mexican place. Very yummy, but it rather disagreed with Himself, so I don't think we'll be going back, alas.
