Very sad .... have you truly given them up? You know, the color is an aesthetic issue, but not a functional issue. Copper must be kept clean so as to allow its thermal properties to work their best, but the idea of shining them everyday is nonsense.
Have you tried a little Bar Keeper's Friend? It is a non-abrasive scouring powder that works so easily. Just wet the copper, sprinkle a little on and rub it in with a wet paper towel. No need at all to scrub hard. A few seconds of rubbing (in normal water) shines 'em right up. Then wash 'em with dishwashing liquid and rinse. Voila!
I don't really know how it would work with your sulfurous water, but it might help.
It'd be a shame to get rid of any copper pots!
