I just had my first cherimoya.
Yum! But very expensive ($7).

1. Oh yummy
But where did you find it?

I think they should be used to model demon hearts, green with a heavy scale pattern.

3. Fairway in NYC.
And they have good prices so I don't really expect to find a cheaper one. It was from California.

2. Buying tips?
How do you know if it's ripe?

I'm intrigued!

4. They had a pile of brochures next to the fruit...
so I took one. You buy it green and as unblemished as is reasonable. Treat it gently and ripen at room temperature (in a paper bag with a banana is good) until the skin goes from green to brown and yields to gentle pressure, kind of like an avocado. Put in the fridge and eat within a couple of days. I had half at a time, and put the other half back in the fridge in a baggie. Do NOT eat the seeds or the skin.
