Anyone seen or heard from housewolf lately?

I haven't seen her in awhile and really miss her being around here with her sweet nature and baking wisdom. Sure hope all is well with her.

1. Checkin' in...

I've been around, it's just that the goings-on in GD-P have absorbed a lot of my posting attention lately. Fortunately that should (BETTER!) settle down over the next 2-3 days. I've kept tabs on what's going on here but you're right, I haven't posted much in a few weeks. You guys have done a great job keeping things going here!

Thanks for the call-out, I gotta admit that it's kinda nice to be missed and I've missed being more involved here. I'm sitting here eating my first Strawberry Shortcake of the season - strawberries on homemade pound cake that I made from that recipe that was posted here a few months ago. Yum, delicious!

How are you doing with your cheeseakes? I saw your post where you said that your health indicators had improved so much... congratulations! you must have been going easy on the cheesecake to get such great results!

Tell me what all you cooked for your dear hubby this weekend... I love to read about your kitchen triumphs.

4. The Edna Lewis one that I found at Saveur for you...

I'm baking it in 2 small loaf pans rather than the tube pan (since my tube pan is too big), though, and mixing it in my DLX mixer - it has a roller & scraper system that mimics hand-kneaading rather than a beater like KA's and other mixers, so I thought it might work well... and I think it does.

First time I made it, I made it at night and had a small slice before going to bed. By the time I got up in the morning, my nocturnal nephew had eaten the entire remainder! Gave me a smile for sure, since he's a pound cake lover and somewhat hard to please.

It's an excellent pound cake, gotta say...

8. No, I didn't try that one

I tried yours and also Rose Levy Berenbaum's pound cake recipe in her "Cake Bible". I actually liked her's a little better because it has more butter so a more buttery-flavor, and it has some leavening so it's more tender. But it actually might be considered more of a "loaf butter cake" recipe more so that a pound cake recipe - sort of more like Entenmann's Butter Loaf.

But my nephew didn't like it as well as the Edna L. cake ... too much butter taste for him (on the other hand, I'm the "Butter Queen of the World", so my taste buds smiled more with the Rose Levy Berenbaum cake), he much preferred Edna L's so that's the one I'm going with for now. Having someone else to help eat it counts for a lot!

Thanks to you for turning me on to it! Last night I took a slice and grilled it on both sides, then spread a little Oregon Marionberry Jam on top... yum!

I lived in Manhattan for a few years in the eary 1980's, and sometimes would stop at a little restaurant on my way to work to pick up grilled blueberry muffin - they'd split the muffin in half, brush a little butter over the cut side and grill it just to toast it a bit. Love'd em! The grilled pound cake reminds me a lot of that.

9. Since I adore butter, I'll give hers a try. But, I've never

had much luck with Rose. She's awfully persnickety and I'm not much of a baker so it could be end up a blob.

So glad to hear your doing well. I'm still in the midst of all the cooking and baking. Got a late start with all the storms we had the past two days and dealing with those.

What do you like to put in yours?

I just finished the weekend's baking. My own fault since I pretty much sat around most of the day. LOL
We've had terrible storms the last two days. Had hail and 90 mi/hr winds break out windows yesterday and wipe out the garden. Was very scary. Today was 70 mi/hr winds with more hail and sideways rain. Not a whole lot you can get done with all that going on.

I haven't made a cheesecake in awhile. Thought it was best to lay off for a little while. Today I made kind of a whole wheat autumn breakfast muffin with carrots, cranberries, chopped dates, and sunflower seeds and milled flax seed. They came out great! Then we had mushroom tofu stroganoff for dinner. Just finished making vanilla ice cream and baking tollhouse cookies. Made it just under 10 p.m. and I'm beat! But hubband is very happy so all's good. He's such a good guy, that's the thing that keeps me cooking so many different and yummy things for him.

Glad to know you're still around. You should check in once in awhile! LOL
