4. The classic Club Sandwich
The original construct is good and that's why its a classic. But you can have great fun making variations on it. Anything you could dream up. Experiment with different bacons. Try pancetta instead of bacon ... or even some ham (country ham would be wonderful) or Canadian bacon. Try some roasted peppers in place of the tomatoes. Use different dressings in place of the mayo. Any of the bottled creamy style dressings - good ol' 1000 Island ... maybe Green Goddess.

Gosh, you set me off on a new track. I may play with some of these myself. :hi:

7. Ask and ye shall recieve
I got this from a Google search, but it is pretty much idenitcal to the recipe I remember from years ago. I haven't made this in forever!

1 1/2 cups mayonnaise
4 anchovy filets
2 green onions, green parts only
1 1/2 tablespoons chopped parsley
2 tablespoons chopped tarragon
2 tablespoons tarragon vinegar
2 tablespoons minced chives

Puree all in ingredients in a blender. Do not puree completely, it should not be a smooth dressing. Even better is to grind the ingredients with a mortar and pestle. Some people nowadaws may want to substitute yogurt for the mayo .... but I wouldn't.

12. In a can ...... in the grocery store ..... where they have such things as
sardines and canned clams ... and maybe the tuna fish is here, too. The cans are very small, flat, and rectangular ... maybe 3/4" high, 1-12" wide and 3-1/2" long. They are, in the Green Goddess, a seasoning far more than an ingredient. As you make the dressing the 'chovies will simply dissolve to invisibility. The taste is more subtle than many people realize.

If you've ever done any Asian cooking and used "fish sauce" its kinda like that. Horrible name and rep, but a really great addition to many dishes.

Don't be afraid of 'chovies. 'Chovies are your friend.

store (which will be soon as I just realized I was on my last 1/4 pound of butter, which means to the store ASAP)

But I won't tell Mr. Ketchup what's in it LOL

16. i told him about it. He told me why he hates when I "play"
I'll tell him what's for dinner. He gets his mouth all set for it and then I do something different with the dish

so now I know never to tell him what's for dinner when I'm feeling adventurous hehehe

8. That's wonderful on French Bread or Sourdough
I sometimes also add salami and a thin layer of spinach (fresh but drained frozen also works too)

I also like Havarti and Ham with Basil and tomato

22. Yummy
I make mine with Italian Seasoning along with the tomatoes and mozzarella. Basil is just as good though. Sometimes a slice ot two of deli thin-sliced turkey is good too. Have to have a good bread too, not just plain old white bread.

10. BBTs...
Bacon, Basil and Tomato.

I hate to admit it, but I've taken to buying the precooked bacon in the packages. Then sliced tomato and whole leaves of fresh basil instead of lettuce. I put it on lightly toasted sour-dough bread with a teeny teense of mayo.

Awfully nice in the summer, when the tomatoes are good, and the only 'cooking' is a few seconds to microwave the precooded bacon, and toast the bread.

19. My mother made what she called a "Go to Hell Sandwich"
Layer a cheese of choice, tomato, slice of onion, green pepper, bacon, and another slice of chesse. Broil in oven, turning when brown.
I am now going to go and make one right now.

25. Make yourself a "Dominic" sandwich
Edited on Mon Feb-07-05 03:50 AM by SoCalDem
recipe:

sheepherder bread (use the middle slices..they're bigger)

butter one side of each slice

layer
in this order:

swiss cheese slice, shaved ham, cheddar, shaved turkey, swiss cheese

when it's all "toasty" and the cheeses have melted, sprinkle a little garlic powder and parmesan cheese on the bread..(both sided) turn the sandwich so the parmesan get a little "toasted" too..

remove from pan..open sandwich carefully and insert finely shredded lettuce and thinly sliced tomatoes... Enjoy !!!
