Discovery Channel cooking shows
Since we gave the Food TV cooks a working over, I thought to bring up the Discovery Channel cooks, too.

I went to bed very early last night and stopped at the Discovery channel when I saw this big lady in a kitchen ordering around a guy who looked scared out of his wits. She was helping a group of young artists prepare a meal for a dinner party in Brooklyn. She gave them absolutely no time to be afraid of tackling bouillabaisse, homemade French breads and an ice cream with cookie dessert. All from scratch. She had them cutting eyes out of fish and smacking dough on the counter like pros. And as things went along she praised them sincerely. In the end, they were proud to serve their dinner. Rosemary is a piece of work, though. I think that with her we get a glimpse of real restaurant kitchens or cooking schools where there's no time to waste and the Chef means business. No coddling. http://home.discovery.com/fansites/rosemary/rosemary.html

I didn't stay awake long enough to watch Cookin' in Brooklyn. But I've watched his show in the past and enjoyed each episode. http://home.discovery.com/fansites/cookininbrooklyn/cookininbrooklyn.html

1. I've never seen either show. When are they on?

The guy from Brooklyn show looks innerestin'

Have you ever read Anthony Bourdain's book, Kitchen Confidential? Its a bitt seamy, but a pretty accurate look inside a real reastaurant kitchen ... along with a peek at the life of a restaurant cook.

4. Is that regular Discovery or their premium/digital version?
Looking at merci_me (Mary)'s post, I'm guessing these shows are on their premium version, which we don't get.

3. We only get the generic Discovery Channel
but I do enjoy watching David Tutera's Party Planner show and pick up a few recipes.

He's on at 10am and 2pm (eastern). Like H2S, my husband and I work from home and we both need background noise and we both have thrown in the towel on "news". Can't recall the last time I saw Judy Woodruff.

Anyway, I have HGTV and flip over to Discovery or TLC once in awhile, but they both have started running a lot of "monster garage/monster truck stuff during the day. My husband isn't so choosy. He turns on the food channel and lets it run ALL day long. Now why the hell when we're in the family room or bedroom at night does he have the remote control glued to his hand and keeps channel surfing?? He'll sit through 3 commercials waiting to see what else might be on that he doesn't want to see either. *sigh* Glad we dropped digital and now only have 80 channels for him to surf.

Mary
