Coffee Filters

Just got this e-mail. Since there are some ideas to use with food, I thought someone here might benefit. :hi:


Coffee filters ..who knew! And you can buy 1,000 at the Dollar Store for almost nothing.

COFFEE FILTERS: Not just for making coffee...



1. Cover bowls or dishes when cooking in the microwave. Coffee filters make excellent covers.

2. Clean windows and mirrors. Coffee filters are lint-free so they'll leave windows sparkling.

3. Protect China. Separate your good dishes by putting a coffee filter between each dish.

4. Filter broken cork from wine. If you break the cork when opening a wine bottle, filter the wine through a coffee filter.

5. Protect a cast-iron skillet. Place a coffee filter in the skillet to absorb moisture and prevent rust.

6. Apply shoe polish. Ball up a lint-free coffee filter.

7. Recycle frying oil. After frying, strain oil through a sieve lined with a coffee filter.

8. Weigh chopped foods. Place chopped ingredients in a coffee filter on a kitchen scale.

9. Hold tacos. Coffee filters make convenient wrappers for messy foods.

10. Stop the soil from leaking out of a plant pot. Line a plant pot with a coffee filter to prevent the soil from going through the drainage holes.

11. Prevent a Popsicle from dripping. Poke one or two holes as needed in a coffee filter.

12. Do you think we used expensive strips to wax eyebrows? Use strips of coffee filters.

13. Put a few in a plate and put your fried bacon, French fries, chicken fingers, etc on them. Soaks out all the grease.

14. Keep in the bathroom. They make great "razor nick fixers."

1. They are also a waste of money.

We bought a permanent filter for ours so we could stop buying them.

But, if people feel compelled to buy them, please buy the brown unbleached ones.

2. 1,000 for a dollar, if you have other uses for them? Sounds like

it'd be worth it. To lazy moi. Maybe my next coffee pot will have a permanent filter. ;)

3. You can order one for your

existing coffeepot. That's what I did. Even if they are cheap, they are a terrible waste of resources, too. ;)

Since they don't have lint, they can be better than paper towels when paper is what you need.

I just think it's nice to know that we have what we need at our fingertips in a pinch! I like the popsicle and taco tips especially since we use the cone shaped filters.

6. I'm a loser with coffee filters...

I wasted more coffee due to filters that folded during the process no matter how careful I was. Gave up and got the gold filter.

Now I don't even use the full coffee maker very often so it's kinda moot.

Those are good tips though!

8. I use 'em to drain

the liquid from plain yogurt. I place a filter in a strainer or colander over a bowl.

The yogurt turns nearly into a very, very soft cheese. I then mix with cucumbers & garlic for a curry 'boy', or a dressing for gyros or pita sandwiches, a salad of sliced red onions, cucumbers & garlic (& salt) and whatnot.

It is VITAL that one read ingredients on the yogurt tub to be sure there is NO gelatin type ingredient... it simply will never drain the excess liquid off.

In a day, about HALF the original volume of 'water' is drained off, so I do a quart tub. Yogurt has a wonderful tartness. It usually needs the addition of some salt, or it seems flat.

Oh yeah... Kim Chee dip. Throw some kim chee in a food processor and mix with the drained yogurt. Mmmm.
