What I learned today...(Nutella thread)
When one has a guest who'd like some coffee (fortunately, you have one of those cute little 'single pot' foil bags of Columbian Supremo stashed in the freezer)...and she takes 'cream and sugar, thank you'...but you're out of milk because you haven't gone shopping yet...:yoiks:

You can:
A). open one of the several cans of sweetened condensed milk you picked up at Mr. Thrifty's to have on hand "just in case..." or
B). You can stir a teaspoon of Nutella into it.

You know what? They're both good answers! :bounce:

A very small dollop of the sweetened condensed milk in this STRONG coffee is utterly PERFECT flavor, richness, and...well...texture-wise...and Nutella doesn't sweeten coffee so much as take just the barest edge off the bitterness, and you get that chocolate/hazelnut bouquet, but it's not OVERWHELMING (like a St*****k's-type beverage).

:9 Who knew? :fistbump:

Now I gotta make some fudge to use up the rest of the can of S/C milk though.
Oh well...

4. I dunno.
I've never had the stuff. Looks gross like a cross between peanut butter and chocolate?

What is it really?

5. Creamy chocolate and hazelnut. The hazelnut flavor does something special to chocolate.

Its not crunchy though...its very smooth. If you do tv, Giada De Laurentis uses it on her show often.

7. Great options, thank you
:pals:

Nutella rawks!! :headbang: :D

If you have it, ice cream makes a great sub also. I used to do that in college. We had those soft-serve machines and I discovered I liked a dollop of ice cream in my coffee :-)

10. I've done the S/C milk thing, but I would never have thought of Nutella.
You just know that I'll have to buy a jar this weekend and try it.

12. I almost bought some the other day
then read the label. In the U.S. it contains palm oil as one of the first ingredients. That's not good at all.

14. Nutella Alternatives and a recipe for homemade Nutella
Edited on Sat Feb-07-09 04:54 PM by The empressof all
There use to be a fabulous sugar free hazelnut/chocolate spread out of Holland called Twist. It's no longer available here but it was terrific. I was addicted and am hording my last jar. There is another Sugar free/lo carb product made by LaNouba. I haven't tried it yet but my understanding is that it's not as good as Twist. (Twist was better than Nutella IMO)

http://www6.netrition.com/lanouba_spreads_page.html

I have tried this one however which is Not Sugar Free and far better than Nutella IMO. It's also very pricy...I get it much cheaper at a local Italian specialty shop and I haven't done a search on line so YMMV on price. It's called Nocciolata and it's Soooooo Good it'll make you cry.

And because I was curious I googled for a recipe and came up with this one which looks insanely easy.

http://healthycooking.suite101.com/article.cfm/nutella

I'm so going to be trying this---Sugar free for me of course. There are other recipes that use real chocolate and more fat (just google hazelnut chocolate spread recipe) but I'm not going there. This one is bad enough. I'm thinking now that I want to try it with Pecans and maybe even Pistachios :spank:

On edit: I went there and this one looks AMAZING
