Old Time Burnt Sugar Cake
My BIL just sent me this recipe. It has step-by-step instructions, and looks like one heavenly cake. The blog has lots of good things.

3. I haven't tasted one of these cakes in years. When I was in school
there was a woman who made this cake for all the potluck functions at the school (cakewalks, chili suppers, pie suppers, etc.), but I remember hers as having a boiled icing, not one made with confectioners sugar.

4. Now, see...
I would love this but the other half would rather have chocolate. She has a chocolate pudding cake I'm going to have to try, too. Might have to do this tonight since the last of his cheesecake brownies went into his lunch today. :eyes:

6. I've been using that recipe (choc. pudding cake) recipe for
years. It's in my Betty Crocker cookbook, and it is RICH and decadent. Everyone I've ever served it to has swooned. Hope your husband does, too.

7. Good to know.
But if it's chocolate and he can stick it right into his face, he's a pretty happy camper.

8. My niece says that it's similar to chocolate cobbler at Cracker Barrel,

only better. I've never had it at CB. This pudding cake is best served warm.

Edit to add: Betty Crocker calls it Hot Fudge Cake.

9. I've never eaten at
a Crapper Barrel so I'll have no comparison but it should do just fine. Thanx! :hi:

13. oh yeah! hot fudge pudding cake!
That's an oldie. I used to make it for guests. Got to have really good whipped cream with it, IMO.

10. Have you tried chocolate pudding cake in the crock pot?
Oh gosh, it's so good. I serve it by scooping it out with a wide, flattish type ice cream spoon.

12. Sounds like a delicious cake... yum!!!!
Lovely, nice, caramel cake... one of my favorites!

Great site, I found a number of things there I'd like to try. I love her concept of making your own vanilla extract... I'll definitely give that a try - soon (will have to find some bulk vanilla beans first though)
