Valentine's Dinner

So who has plans for tomorrow? Are you going out or staying in? Where are you going or what are you fixing?

I went to Whole Foods today and picked up some Capricho de Cabra (soft goat cheese), three different selections from their olive bar, some organic strawberries, organic truffles (the chocolate kind), some organic Meyer lemons. I'm going to bake some bread and that will be our Valentine's treat.

Tomorrow makes 12 years since the day he flew to Ohio so we could meet face to face after two months of getting to know each other online and the phone. :loveya:

The date was really accidental. It just happened to fall on Valentine's Day. But, yeah, it does help him remember it easily.

What we're having will probably only be an appetizer in his mind so I'll probably still end up making Pad Thai. LOL

2. Well, since our planned trip to the eastern Sierra is canceled thanks to back-to-back winter storms

...we're staying in LA and having a romantic brunch at Campanile on La Brea tomorrow. All the nice places are already booked up for dinner at this late stage, so we'll do brunch out at a very nice restaurant instead, go see what the Getty Center has in its current exhibition lineup for the afternoon, and then cook a simple but romantic dinner together tomorrow night at home.

I have no IDEA what we'll cook, but it may end up just being something as simple as bread, cheese and wine.

If I can squeeze it in tonight, I'm going to make some red velvet cupcakes to have for dessert tomorrow night, using Magnolia Bakery's recipe.

We'll try to squeeze in a slightly shorter tip up to the eastern Sierra/Death Valley in a couple of weekends, weather permitting.

Can you explain the red velvet thing to me? I'd never even heard of it until I moves south. Either I've had bad red velvet cake or the whole mystic is in the color and not having any unusual flavor, maybe?

........ and I'm not even that sold on cakes. But, living in the South has certain advantages, and this surely is one of them.

5. Daughter met her husband online too.

Ten years, I think. They now have a 2-1/2 yr baby boy.

Son-in-law, an exec chef brought her home a tiny cake for V day one time, calling it a "Love-seat cake". ??!

He and I wrap her Xmas presents together each year. I think he doesn't quite 'get' the venacular... he calls ribbons and bows "garnish".

It has such a foodie touch to it! It's very sweet, too, that they wrap her gifts together.

16. He and I take a day together to shop for her.

He always knows pretty much what he wants for her, but I help him with sizes & stuff.

We have lunch together. It's a fun time for us to be together. And we love lunch!

About five years ago he uttered, "I want to get her an engagement ring and propose on Christmas." Exactly ZERO time elapsed between those words and me having him at the jewelry counter! I positively defied physics!

She tells me, "I can't ever leave him cuz you'll keep HIM!". Well.... he cooks. :shrug:

8. Sparkly and I met on Feb 1, 1997

22. Nope, you're married a year longer ....

...... we got married on June 2, 1998.

I had placed an ad looking for a ballroom dance partner. Sparkly placed an ad in the same place looking to get a group together to go dancing. I was the only one who answered hers.

Her's read, in part: "If you're looking for romance, please dance on by. No romance. Just dancing."

Neither of us dated anyone else after we met.

I'm a firm believer that the best true love type relationships come when you aren't looking. My theory is that if you are actively looking you're giving off vibes you aren't aware of but other people pick up immediately. If you aren't looking, things are relaxed and comfortable, and you are free to be yourself and so are they.

We are staying in and I really wanted to do something simple and slow.

I picked up some pork chops and will make those. Mashed potatoes and another veggie on the side. Basic home cooking that we really like.

Around here, Valentine's Day is regarded as just another pagan holiday. The observance and celebration of Arbor Day, Flag Day, and, oh, yes, Kurt Vonnegut's birthday - those are the kinds of things that bring out the best.

Yet, I've gotten some really spectacular pieces of jewelry on this pagan holiday, so I should be more involved with it, but it just doesn't move me.

24. Truthfully, if it weren't for

the anniversary aspect, it wouldn't be all that special around here, either. Before we married I asked Bill to never send me flowers because I didn't want him wasting money on stuff that dies pretty quick and is a product of slave labor, and no blood diamonds. Those things just aren't my speed and never have been.

It's a really good thing coz he was poor as a church mouse when we got married. It's always been the joke that I married him for his money. Good thing he's handsome and loving. :rofl:

I feel like the old lady in here. Mr.sazemisery and I have been together 33 years. I would have to start a thread in the Lounge to explain the whole story of our meeting. I have written a short story about it. Suffice to say it involves bail bonds, a broken down Cadillac, a drunken cab driver, and a down comforter. Thrown in there for good measure is a stint in the Army(me).
