The great dishwasher hunt is over
Thanks for all your suggestions. So what did I buy?

A Bosch Apexx and

A Jennair French Door refrigerator.

How is I bought a refrigerator? You got 10% if you bought two appliances and that was next on my list. And no payments/interest for a year. Of course by then I have to figure out how I am going to pay for it!

5. I certainly will
I fell in love with the ease of it in the showroom! So accessible, and lots of deep shelf room if you prepare an hors d'oeuvres tray in advance or just want to toss a pizza box in!

3. We love our Bosch dishwasher!
Hope it works as well for you too. Congrats!

Although, seeing you bought stainless, I can only hope you have a quiet, not heavily used kitchen. I would have warned you otherwise - stainless is a pain to keep clean.

4. Well the kitchen is definitely used...

18. Excellent!
(I was going to say if you have kids, stainless is a bad idea but thought that might get me seriously flamed around here lately. :))

19. I have stainless and kids.
It IS a pain to keep clean. Also, I do 2-3 loads a day. But I think the unit is sooooo pretty, it is worth the extra effort to keep it looking good.

22. I'm agree it's worth it
but yeah, it's a pain.

Do you mind if I ask what you use? I'm afraid to use anything except some buffer stuff that came with it but that isn't practical for everyday use.

(Wow, I have now officially become my mother - I am asking for advice regarding household cleaning products.)

:wow:

24. It happens to the best of us.
I use 409 and glass cleaner for everyday. If I have something really stubborn, brass polish seems to work. There is a special stainless polish to make it look really snappy. The polish seems to help repel water marks and finger prints as well.

There, now you are officially your mother :)

7. Fabulous!
I can hardly wait to see the pics of your kitchen.

And let me know how you like the big meats drawer. It's perfect for those larger family packs we like to get and divide for freezing. I've heard that you can even get a party tray in there, too. I forget exactly how deep it looks in person but I was wowed by the whole fridge and think this style will work best in our kitchen. I bet you're so excited!

9. I need both, too
I'm 58 and have never had a dishwasher. I really, really don't want to revamp the bank of cabinets near the sink. With concrete floors and no crawl space, it all gets so complicated to make changes. So I've got to get a portable. And we definitely need to get a new fridge. As our butts get bigger, the two-butt kitchen is turning into a one-butt! So, I'm doing so much research and appreciate your whoop-de-doo. It's pretty exciting. And I've done a complete 180 on stainless. The more I see it, the more I like it. So professional in appearance and we do some serious cooking 'round here.

I love this forum, too. After the political news and writing angry emails etc as we do in DU, this is a nice rest stop for one of the other important things in life.

14. I have a portable
Our house is over 35 years old and dishwashers weren't the norm back then. I'd lose too much valuable cabinet space to permanently install a DW. Thankfully there's a large enough pantry closet in the kitchen that the DW can just be rolled in there when not in use. I don't know what I'd do without my dishwasher.

10. Some people are into other stuff that we "don't get", I suppose
But yeah ... on this board, we "get it"! I know your excitement. Like AZDD6 said, you have to post pictures when you get them installed.

My youngest son is about to redo the kitchen in their new (1928) house. I've been doing some planning for them. They have a reasonable, but limited, budget, so we have to get the most bang for the old buckeroo. I was in (shuddddder) Home Despot the other day. They had a "special purchase" Maytag french door refrig with stainless doors and black sides for $1,800 or so. The price seemed good, but I know nadda about Maytag refrigerators. Washers, yeah, okay. But fridges? Anyone have any experience with them?

15. Your Maytag and my Jennair French door are probably the same
I got mine at EXPO (division of Home Despot)... and in my research I found that Maytag/Amana/Jennair are all the same company. Mine is SS with the black sides too and ran $2000, and if I were a betting man I wager they are exactly the same except for the door design and nameplate.

Maytag did patent the French door design FWIW.

23. That's interesting about Maytag's patent
I saw the LG (Korean company) one with the French doors. It's very similar inside but I guess they would have to be. It was $1800. I'n curious what the deal is regarding their relationship with Maytag.

One important feature for me is the clean up. It's going to be so much easier that getting down on the knees and reaching in for cleaning. And seeing what all is in the freezer. Well, seeing what's everywhere will be easier with the fridge area at eye level. I believe that this model is going to catch on very big in years to come as people see them in use in the kitchens of family, neighbors etc.

20. I have a Maytag fridge.
Just a little white one, nothing fancy. But it has been fine. I think it got a good Consumer Report rating, I think that is why we bought it. But we have had it for a while, so I can't remember for sure.

works really well. We renovated last year and the Bosch was recommended to us by the decorator for its energy saving ability. And it looks cool.

12. I love the looke of the Jennair refrigerator.
As I wrote in your earlier thread I can't get the the Bosch (even though I really, really like it) because it won't let you air dry.

Anyhoo, on the refrig-does it have ice & water? Obviously not through the door. But does it have an automatic ice maker? It looks sooo cool.

I'm happy for you. I think new appliances are soo much fun. The last new ones we got were the Maytag Neptune washer dryer & I was sooo excited. And still madly in love with them. Well, not the dryer; it's no big deal, but the washer is awesome.

best.

16. It does have ice and water....
The ice maker of course is in the bottom freezer and when you pull out the chest the filled ice bucket is right there.

The water dispenser is in the left hand inside of the door, and what I like is that it is filtered to health dept. specifications, so it should be good stuff.

21. Let us know about the fridge.
I am hoping to do a kitchen renovation in three years or so. I replaced all the appliances in my current kitchen when we bought the house, so we will be sticking with the range and dishwasher. But we have not replaced the fridge. The Jennair looks fabulous! Is it deeper than a normal fridge?

I love the stainless steel look. I'm definitely going to look into that when the time comes. My ancient Whirlpool nearly died this month but was resurrected by the Sears repairman.
