The god is dead, the god has risen (Zool update)
Well I had to put poor Zool down
the drain because he hated his new
ceramic home. After a decent period
of mourning and observance, I decided
to try it again without bakers' yeast
and used a small bunch of green grapes,
with unbleached flour, Arrowhead water
in the original plastic container.

I think that was Friday. Well, last night
I went to feed the starter and it was HUGE!
It more than doubled. It riz! :wow:

The oven god is an intransigent one
so I'm trying to keep my expectations
humble. But at least now we know what
"doubling" really looks like. :)

2. The first try was marred by my own impatience.

That bakers' yeast just didn't work with everything else. Maybe it would work with different water or flour or orisons, lol, but it didn't work here.

So, Mom and I were ooohhhing at midnight last night over our new big, fat. lovely housemate. :)

5. The first one couldn't have really been Zool, just a pretender
It sounds like you've summoned the real Zool to inhabit your kitchen and supply fizz in your bread doughs.

This is something I can't wait to do again. Nothing wrong with sour grapes. :)

PS- I want to know what you intend to make with it.

7. I've always wanted to learn how to make sourdough bread.
Baking has always been a love of mine but I never did get around to learning how to make sourdough. It's funny because I can whip out all kinds of fancy sweet things but lately, the basics are just much more interesting for some reason. :)
