Cake People, Help Me Out
In the not-too-distant future I'll be involved in a throw-down style competition among friends. The dealio is we'll have to incorporate a third friend's Kentucky moonshine - the real deal.

Is it possible to make something like a layer cake or jelly roll, and soak it, or does the sweet stuff need to be a part of the mix for cooking?

Anyone have experience with this?

1. Bake the cake and pour the booze into it...
the way rum babas are made:

(this is just one recipe-- the cake part can be pretty much any sort of cake or cupcake)

OTOH, there are some things that have the booze mixed in, but they're more like candy:

1/2 whiskey in the cake on this one...

but I use alcohol in tiramisu or fruitcake or blackforest cake or a triffle by dipping or soaking or brushing...

this sounds like a fun contest...

6. Funny You Should Mention That
I was thinking about tiramisu and actually picked up some lady fingers to try and mess around with it.

I suppose I could try to do something normal, like a chicken or pasta sauce ..

3. Moonshine has a very astringent like flavor
At least that's been my experience. I'd probably flavor it before brushing on a cake or adding to a dessert. You can find recipes on line for flavored vodkas which would work.

You also could use it in a marinade....It'll tenderize anything. Just use a light hand and some strongly flavored herbs.

4. Is Kentucky moonshine anything like Irish poteen?
I've had the latter.
My aunt, a nun, brought it through customs claiming it was holy water. The stuff is clear like water but so strong that, in my limited experience, it is watered down in a toddy or similar drink.
