1. god, that looks good! Hubby would love it (probably TOO much for his waistline).
It does involve about 3 more steps than I usually devote to meal preparation. I also take into consideration how many pots, pans, bowls and utensils I'll have to clean up, something Mark Bittman probably doesn't need to worry about. Still, it's a nice looking dish and I may try it.

2. I did that one for years
because piecrust was just too calorie laden for me. A savory raised dough of some description baked on top of the chicken, veloute, and veggies worked a lot better for anybody watching their fat intake.

I always seasoned mine with snipped parsley and cracked black pepper. It was heaven.

3. That's MY recipe!

It's the last meal from a roast chicken.

But I've never made a biscuit dough with an egg... hmmmm

4. Yes, it is a left over roast chicken recipe,
instead of more soup! Including the veggies.

5. I love pot pies, but I hate dealing with that crust when I make my own. This...
looks like the perfect answer.

I have mass quantities of of chicken pieces and various veggies in the freezer-- this could be tomorrow's dinner.

6. I used to do something very similar to that to use up leftovers.
I always sprinkled a little grated cheese (whatever was in the frig that day) on top of the dough for the last few minutes of baking and the kids just loved it.
