I'd buy these just for the colors - don't think I've ever seen any cookware or bakeware so pretty

Lilac & Cassis

1. That's a lovely purple. My dishes are close to that color.
A few years ago when there was a little extra, I bought some Sasaki Colorstone. It's really simple but the color is great. We had white china for so long, I went a little nuts.

8. I love those, Beth.
I have somewhat similar. Stoneware, pinkish mauvish without the white edge. They were a steal at Tuesday Morning and I love them.

I love your style, woman! :hi:

2. Nice colors, but if it's not flame, I don't want it
My other cookware is Calphalon, stainless, well seasoned cast iron and well seasoned rolled steel. I wanted my Le Creuset to be LOUD. Lavender and violet just don't do it for me.

4. Dagnabbit.
They heard that I was dead set against buying any because it's way too expensive for me and came back to tempt me with some of my favorite colors. x(

6. Even if it's a competing brand
everybody needs one enameled cast iron Dutch oven for soups, breads, and deep frying. Once you get one, you know why and wonder why you were so stubborn for so many years.

The only difference with Le Creuset is that it's been found after fires, floods, tornadoes, earthquakes and hurricanes looking brand new. Unless you routinely bash it with other heavy cast iron pieces, it's indestructible.

7. I had one but
not too long ago, I dropped it and put a big crack in it. Now I'm using the insert with the heavy glass lid from my old crock pot to bake bread in. I don't usually deep fry so no issue there. I just use my stainless for everything else.

14. I bought my daughter a Dutch oven for Christmas.
Due to budget restrictions, I got it from Lodge (and yes, I know it's made in China, but I just couldn't afford Le Creuset), and she absolutely loves it. It rarely leaves the stove. She's already hinting that there are other pieces she'd like to have so I think I have made my future shopping for her a lot easier.

11. I can't afford them either
nor do I really need them. Couldn't help posting the picture though, I was SO taked with those beautiful colors. And SO happy to see some colors that softer and more complex than the glaring primary colors we've seen in kitchenware for the past few yeaars.

I went to Sur La Table's website last evening after I posted Peter Reinhart's schedule trying to find out about registering for his Portland class and that picture was on their front page - I was immediately drawn in, couldn't stop looking at them. Maybe I can find some other items in those colors without having to spend the money for Le Creuset that I don't really need and will end up sitting unseen in a cabinet most of the time!

12. Exactly the effect they had on me, sweets.
I just couldn't stop looking at them. That set of two rectangular bakers is a pretty nice deal. I may still think about that one.

I know I've always prided myself on making due with what I had or buying really good second hand pieces, but there are times like these that really get me lusting for something. Like that large cassis
french oven.

13. I can stand the crayon colors in cookware
but I wish they'd get rid of them in ready to wear clothing.

It's getting to the point that I have to consider overdyeing everything I get. I do not look good in saturated colors.

17. Sometime in the early 90s, my furniture all went neutral or wheat colored
Edited on Tue Mar-09-10 02:09 AM by EFerrari
and all the accents went to strong primary colors. Maybe it was after a year when it rained for 9 months, which would be 1992. We were so starved for light and so, color, that the house ended up looking like PeeWee Herman's Play House, lol.

In particular, I remember this wheat colored couch that I waited months for. The fabric was shot through with very very skinny metallic threads of blue, red and yellow and you didn't even see them unless you stuck your nose right into the weave. And the pillows were red, yellow, blue, green and PURPLE. It was either really too Berkeley or very late Pre-school.
