2. Chocolate syrup makes everything better. It would be good

over ice cream. Couldn't a Mole be seen as a chocolate gravy?

And there isn't very much chocolate (actually cocoa) in a mole sauce. Just enough to contribute to the flavor along with all the other ingredients that also do that.

11. Over biscuits is not too strange. I used to love chipped beef

and gravy over biscuits. That and a big cup of coffee was a wonderful way to start the day.




biscuits and gravy in the army was known as shit on a shingle. They managed to make one of the most delightful comfort foods into a tasteless glop. Salt and Pepper Please!!

22. OK, back to Miso Soup. I've been on a diet since Nov. Comfort foods

don't need to be eaten. The memory is enough for me. I can taste and smell those wonderful poisons.

17. Same here, and one of the ways I knew I was in a military town

was that the freezer cases are stocked with at least half a dozen different varieties of frozen shit on a shingle.

My mother called it that, too. She never had much use for the type of people who wouldn't say "shit" if they had a mouthful of it.

3. In my dad's family they ate it so much during the Depression he

was totally burnt out on chocolate...wouldn't touch it until he was in his late sixties.

5. Same here with liverwurst. When I was in the army we worked

the evening shift. All we could get for dinner was what the mess hall sent out. Because it was between meals, they didn't want to cook, so they sent a liverwurst, no bread, no crackers, no knife, just a liverwurst. For three years, nothing but liverwurst.




To make matters worse, our site had cover noise to prevent eavesdropping. The cover noise was the sound track of "The Sound of Music." It was on a reel to reel on a continuous loop. Magnetic tape stretches over time causing wild distortions. After a few months, the kids sounded demonic as they sang along with the Do Ray Mi song. We didn't need Acid, all we needed was to stand outside for a few minutes.

To fill the last few minutes of the tape, they included the Rolling Stones "Jumping Jack Flash." Luckily, we only had two suicides while I was there.

10. I was raised on German sausages. It broke my heart that I

could no longer stand the smell of Liverwurst. I used to eat big thick liverwurst and onion sandwiches. Liver sausage with scrambled eggs, and Souse whenever possible was what fortified me in my early life.

Big tables of meats and cheeses at the Democratic Club were fond memories, and so were the bright eyed frauleins that broke my heart with their beauty. Their translucent lips needed to be kissed, but shyness (and self preservation) prevented me.

up a hunk for dinner, lol. The only trouble is, it's just me, so unless I can freeze it for later, it's gonna be daily liverwurst until it's gone.

When I visited Holland as a kid I loved the Chocolate Sprinkles on bread with butter! And what about Nutella........Nothing better than Stuffed French toast made with Nutella and Bananas

27. I first had Nutella in Brugges. Boy, what a mistake that town was

for minding my calories! LOL. It was our last stop before home and I think we both gained five pounds in three days.

28. There use to be a fabulous sugar free Dutch version of Nutella

It was called Twist. I'm ok with artificial sweeteners in moderation so I Loved it. Alas it's no longer available in the US. It wasn't that much lower in calories but it didn't give me that rush that the Nutella does. I'm super sensitive to lots of sugars.

ON EDIT: I just found out the reason they stopped selling it in the US was because it had sugar in it :rofl: They got caught and fined for miss labeling. It certainly wasn't the full sugar product that Nutella was....Meh...I still love it, would buy it and don't hate them for their fraudy little ways. But I'm just a desperate junky.

26. I grew up in Missouri and had never heard of chocolate gravy until I moved to Arkansas.

I thought it was a joke at first, you know, like a sky hook or a 2X4 stretcher. My husband at the time got the recipe from his mother, but I never developed a taste for it.
