1. I use bottled dressing...

there are several really good prepared ones I've found in the veggie dept.
And the simple green with a little red cabbage is rather striking and tasty.
add in raisins if you have folk with sweet tooths - er teeth?
grated carrots make it even prettier.or chunks of apples or walnuts

If you have a food processor you could put it together in minutes!

2. curried cole slaw needs a mention here
I made it for the first time today - I didn't measure, but basically it was the usual shredded cabbage with a few carrots, some crumbled cooked boczek (polish bacon, totally optional imho but I happened to have some in the fridge) and the dressing was mayo, a healthy spoonful of curry paste, and enough white vinegar to thin it down some. Holy cow, I love cole slaw, but the curry made it something amazing.

3. If you want really quick
buy the bagged slaw mix and Marzetti's Cole Slaw dressing. I then add Old Bay seasoning. That's it. I like it because it's easy and makes a good side to take for lunch.

4. I love Marzetti's, too. I've tried all kinds of homemade recipes
and they never come close to Marzetti's. Interesting twist with the Old Bay.

6. I like to use shredded broccoli
Most grocery stores package it ready for slaw, which comes out a bit neater than if you had shredded it yourself. However, if you are making a lot it would probably be much more cost effective to shred it yourself along with a few carrots. Shredded broccoli holds up a bit better than cabbage also and doesn't turn limp as fast.

My recipe for slaw dressing is pretty simple. I have two basic ones that I use.

For American style slaw mix equal parts mayo, plain yogurt, buttermilk for the basic dressing. I usually add a bit of Dijon mustard, but you could also add a bit of balsamic vinegar. Naturally you'll need to salt and pepper to taste.

You can also do a very simple Asian style slaw dressing by using a small amount of Dijon mustard to start an emulsion of sesame oil and rice wine vinegar. Then you add a bit of peanut butter, a small amount of fresh garlic, and some soy sauce. Reserve a bit of the soy sauce and add it at the end to get the seasoning just right to taste.
