3. Thanks NMDD2!
I'm excited. Worked on it yesterday quite a bit so I could clean today. I worked the polls on Tuesday and was on my feet all day (16+ hours and new voting machines! Oy!), but recovered nicely by Wednesday noon and started thinking of my jam-making buddy coming for cocktails and dinner tonight. Besides, any excuse to make duck!

2. speaking of collards...
...the new Saveur magazine has a group of collard recipes from the world over that look most intriguing.

Your menu planning skills rock, YP.

4. My Saveur subscription lapsed, but the article on
collards would be intriguing to read. I love collards, kale, bok choy, and Brussels sprouts. They are so good for us in so many ways. And as you know, I usually have help with my menu planning--the shrimp in pistachio sauce recipe you suggested last fall was such a hit! Aren't we lucky to have such a resource in each other through DU!

7. A link to the Beet-Apple Soup
This is really delicious and can be served either hot or cold. I made a half-recipe, used apple cider vinegar instead of lemon juice and roasted the beets instead of boiling them. I finished up the last of it for breakfast yesterday morning. We did enjoy ourselves at dinner and the veggie dishes as well as the duck were gobbled to the last nib and crumb. I did make soup out of the remainder of the bunch of collard greens with the duck carcass the next day and added in celery, carrots, onion and a can of chickpeas plus a can of red beans--also quite yummy.

Enjoy! :hi:
