My favorite cookies in the world!
We just made some more pizzelle, chocolate and anise ones. These are the Christmas tradition in my family. They are so light and crisp, very thin and not terribly sweet at all. Very hard to stop eating once you start! Well for me, anyway. LOL

This is the third time this week we've made them. Sunday we made three batches, about 6 dozen chocolate ones, split them up and took them to both of our jobs. Later in the week, we made the anise ones (the traditional flavor and my personal favorite) and did the same. They both were big hits at work. People had never seen or heard of them before and thoroughly enjoyed them.

I see no reason to reserve these for the holidays alone. Since they don't require the oven, they would be a perfect cookie to make in the summer without heating up the whole house.

1. They look beautiful and I'm sure I wouldn't be able
to stop eating at just one! My Mom used to make anise pizzelles every Christmas. My sister-in-law made anise, chocolate and rum pizzelles this year. I tried each kind :-).

4. It's extremely difficult
to stop eating them once I start. Good thing there isn't a whole lotta sugar in them. :D

2. If you do it as soon as they come off of the pizzelle press
Edited on Sun Dec-26-10 09:05 PM by Denninmi
can you roll them into ice cream cones, or fold them like a giant fortune cookie or taco shell? I would think you probably could.

3. Yep.
You can make cones, altho it's hard to wrap them tight enough at the bottom to prevent a hole sometimes, or cannoli shells or cookie taco shells.

6. Thats when you melt chocolate and fill the hole at the bottom.
:) Then they make great waffle-y cones.

12. Well, I got a couple of gift cards for Christmas.
Best Buy and Home Depot. I'll have to check out and see if either of them sells pizzelle makers.

10. I love pizzelles! Those are lovely!
I probably should ask you to recommend a good pizzelle maker since I've always wanted to make them myself. There are many Italians here in the Pgh area and they are a common treat and easy to buy, but it would be great to make them at home.

19. Definitly worth making at home.
How else are you gonna smell up your house with all that anise? LOL

Like I told yellerpup, my iron is 20 years old so I don't have good advice on current ones, however it's a Vitantonio and they seem to hold up very well. Not sure if they are even still made coz I can't find them on the internet except ebay auctions.

It belonged to my dear Italian Gran. She had a green and cream one just like it but I'm not sure who got that one.

It's my prized possession. :D

25. Da fishes went well
(Check out the prices on those 50s dinette sets! http://www.classickitchensandmore.com/restored-50s-dinette-sets-c-2.html )

Tomorrow we do the last of them. Some flops. The very biggest hit was Sparkly's Risotto con Vongole. We did that last night and it was great.

Tomorrow the star will be shrimp oreganto. Pizza fritte with anchovies will make the seventh fishie

I have to replace the seats and backs. They were already really in bad shape and then the cats helped them along. :eyes:

This place has reasonable prices on replacement vinyl: http://www.seatsandstools.com/replacements-c-179.html

So happy that the feeshes are going over well. You guys are awesome! :hi:
