Did you get a cookbook for Christmas?

If so, do tell!

I was given a cookbook from a Seattle bakery called Macrina. The bakery's web site is here: http://www.macrinabakery.com

The downside is that no photos are provided of the finished products. I really want photos in cookbooks.

The upside? Some interesting concepts.

Such as something called Pasta Frolla for such items as Ricotta Pie and Apricot Frangipane Tart. It's made with flour, sugar, salt, anise seed, lemon zest, orange zest, butter, eggs and egg yolks, and vanilla.

The Olivetta Loaf sounds great too, beginning with a biga and ending up studded with green olives, fresh oregano and fresh rosemary.

1. Not me.
I've even stopped looking at them. It's just so easy to find most of what I want on-line.

Your gift sounds nice, though. They seem to have a really nice menu, so I would imagine there are some lovely recipes.

Enjoy!

Are you rested up from your cooking spree yet?

2. Nope, working on MODIFYNG recipes for my gluten allergy though
I started taking notes... the chocolate chips were (are still) fantastic... but I am going to try Xanthan gum next time. I want them chewy and the gum helps.

Simply Ming One Pot Meals: Quick, Healthy & Affordable Recipes by Ming Tsai and Arthur Boehm.

Looks interesting so far.

4. I really like him.
I don't know if they still do but our local PBS station used to carry his show during the day through the week. I used to watch it when I was home after my surgery several years ago.

:hi:

5. I like Ming, too.
I learned things from him, and I always coveted his chopping block.

6. must be a trend with celebrity chefs
Jamie Oliver has a 30 minute meal book out. I have to say that I have watched his 30 minute show a few times and I wanted to climb through the screen to eat what he was cooking. The last one was a meal of bubble and squeak and a layered cabbage/kale/greens and bread *pudding* with olive oil, cheeses and lots of herbs. I'm amused by his outdoor "kitchen" and potting shed prep station. It looks ancient.

7. Yeah, all the celebrity chefs seem to be doing a cookbook.
I found this one at the library. The cover really caught my eye. I don't know anyone who cooks in a dress with gold belt and 5" gold peep-toed heels! I guess that's what makes the food so elegant.

8. Cooking for Geeks
I'm a biology geek instead of a computer geek, which seems to be the target audience. But I love the science behind cooking so it works for me.

9. I bought myself a cookbook since Santa didn't bring me one.
The "America's Test Kitchen Family Cookbook"...good for a novice like me because it lays out the basics really well.

My mom also gave me her 1960s "Joy of Cooking" so I'll start to fiddle with some recipes out of there.
