anybody have (had) a subscription to Cooking Light Magazine?

I find their website a mess as far as getting recipes but am hoping the magazine will be worth having. I signed up for the 2 free issues dealio a couple days ago.

Advice, experiences or comments anyone?

2. I had a subscription

but finally let it lapse because renewing got all confused.

I still have all the magazines... probably three or four years worth... but I find I'm more likely to go to their website than I am to pick up an old issue.

I frequently flip through the magazine at the grocery store and if something strikes my fancy, I'll buy that issue and then go around a pick up all the stuff on my new shopping list. :)

6. it seems like all the mags are just trying toooooo hard IMHO

i look at the little cookbooks on the checkout line all the time and none of them are worth a darn

7. My local Safeway

put up a little magazine rack in the produce section for the cooking magazines. :) (So, probably ALL Safeways do the same thing.)

Grocery shopping is usually a relaxing, recreational activity for me, so I have no problem picking up a magazine and browsing through the menus.

And really, I don't have a big problem looking up recipes on the website. I know it re-directs you to allrecipes.com, but you can then select "publication" in order to just pull up recipes from cooking light.

And I NEVER look at the carp they have in the checkout line. You're right. None of them are worth a darn. But the magazine section is a whole 'nother animal. :)

3. I used to love that magazine

and then they went to a different format - not a good change, so I too let my subscription lapse. A friend of mine gets it and shares it with me, but I would NOT pay for a subscription to that magazine. Just not worth it. And . . . there's really nothing "light" about their recipes.

8. I highly recommend Cooking Light magazine

Their recipes are excellent and above all, sane. Yes, they use butter. And bacon. In small/moderate amounts, and obviously not in every recipe.

I have found that cutting out entire food groups that I enjoy is a sure fire recipe for my inability to stick to the commitment of changing my lifestyle (formerly known as dieting).

10. I stopped buying it when it changed its format

they are trying to mimic that Home Town cooking magazine (or whatever it is called), which i also find very hard to read and enjoy

The new layout for Cooking Light is HORRIBLE

I had a subscription years ago. Don't remember why I let it lapse, but I still have the magazines, and I still use them. You can request a free issue on the web page. Also, tons of recipes.


On edit: They also have gluten-free, diabetic, heart-healthy, hypertension, and other special diet recipes.
