What fluid would you like with your steak?
I always enjoy a nice fluid with my meal.
Sparkly was on the couch for a couple of days with a cold. She observed that she needed to maintain her intake of fluids. That actually meant she was asking for water and tea and the occasional diet beverage.
Why is it the only time we call wet stuff "fluids" is when we're sick?
"Drink plenty of fluids!" said the advice nurse, cheerfully, on the phone.
As opposed to what? Solids?

4. Well, it can also be soup, Jello, and ice cream |
|
Ice cream is great with a sore throat.
The alternative word is "liquids."
After all, telling somebody to drink plenty of water isn't always productive since it's overly restrictive. Using a collective noun is better because it includes all qualifying foods.

Mom always brought out the ginger ale. I learned later ginger calms the stomach or something.
