Happy Paczki Day to everyone.
This is our local alternative to Mardi Gras, courtesy of the many Polish immigrants who settled in Michigan in the 19thand early 20th centuries:

I might indulge in one. Or perhaps more than one. Actually, the most dangerous part of Paczki Day is the day AFTER Paczki Day, when all of the bakeries have a bazillion left over and generally sell them for a couple of bucks a dozen, about 1/4 of the original price. Day old Paczki are just as good, and these suckers freeze well for later.

1. Oh yum that sure looks good.
Several bakeries around here make them but I have yet to try one!

3. The paczki link made me drool
and the tune made we want to polka around the living room! Looks delicious and I don't think I could stop on one. Happy Paczki Day! Thanks for sharing. :hi:

4. Makes me wish I could still eat wheat
although I've been assuaging myself this week with a box of overpriced GF donuts that taste almost like Entemann's.

If they freeze, the faithful should be scooping them up for a second Paczki Day the day after Easter. I guess that just hasn't occurred to them, huh?

6. The Publix grocery store chain sells them down here in the South
Unfortunately for us single folk, you cannot buy them in singles. Four-packs only. I know they freeze, but you can still hear them calling from the freezer.

7. Those look delicious!
I wonder how difficult they are to make. Are they baked or fried? :hi:

8. Um, traditionally fried.
However, I've made jelly donuts using my grandmother's recipe, which, although she was English and not Polish, is pretty similar to the dough Paczki are made from. And, instead of frying, I baked them. Slightly chewier on the outside, but not as caloric and didn't leave quite such a heavy feeling after indulging. So, I think either way works.
