Apples 'n' Taters together ... Irish Apple Mash
This actually sounds quite good. I have some apples I need to use and we love mashed potatoes.

My husband LOVES apples and can't eat them with the skins on so soon after having had surgery so this might just be something he'll like.

I'm going to try it.

Anyone else?

Irish Apple Mash

* 1 pound cooking apples
* 2 pounds potatoes
* 1 tablespoon sugar
* 2 ounces butter

Peel potatoes, boil in salted water. Peel, core and slice apples. Add sugar and a tablespoon of water and cook until soft. Drain the potatoes, mash and fold in the apples and butter. Makes 4 servings.

Twice Baked Sweet Potatoes that used apples in the stuffing. I can't find the exact recipe, but she scooped the centers out of baked sweet potatoes just like you would regular baking potatoes. Then she sauteed some chopped apple in butter, added brown sugar, crumbled cooked bacon, cinnamon and chopped pecans. She mixed that in with the mashed sweet potatoes, stuffed it back in the potato shells and baked them until they were hot and golden brown on top.

4. Himmel und erde
There are regional variations all over Germany, but the basic recipe is homemade apple sauce mixed with mashed russet potatos topped with caramelized onions. Serve with fried blutwurst or brats.

5. For a long time
I've been trying to.....deprogram, for want of a better word, people of the notion that certain foods somehow traditionally belong together or not, or should be served in a certain way or at a certain stage of a meal.

Potatoes with apple is no stranger than tangy strawberries with roast beef. Stroganoff over herbed, diced, raw tomatoes, anything served on a bed of finely shredded iceberg or topped with a whisp of mint and raw onion. Liver flash-fried with balsamic and cilantro. Chicken cooked in rogan-josh style and instead of rice, a mirepoix of raw seasonal vegetables....

As I read your post about potato and apple together I was eating breakfast of grilled hash browns, bacon, tomato and apple......

I'm going to make that one today. Since, I missed my opportunity to have it for breakfast, dinner sounds good.

I never allow the clock to dictate. :P
