Things you can stick up a cornish game hen.
I wanted to try that beer can thingy where you stick the can up the chicken to roast it upright, only try it with cornish game hens first.

The beer can is too big so I thought, maybe one of those energy drink cans would be the right size. They are a little too short and two dollars a pop. So, that's out.

Would an Orangina bottle explode if I used that? The only other thing that comes to mind is one of these although, there is no place to put liquid to keep the inside of the bird hydrated:

:silly:

1. You just need a smaller can.
Instead of a 12 liquid ounce beverage can, what about using a 6 ounce size that orange juice or apricot nectar comes in. Or perhaps a can from tomato paste. You could always wrap it in aluminum foil if there are any concerns about what might be in the metal or the inks on the can.

Or, perhaps just make a blob of aluminum foil in the right shape and size - that would probably work, too.

I got a nice laugh at the title of your thread -- cute.

3. For other non metalic objects, I suggest one of the following:
1/2 of a lemon or lime, a small tangerine, halfed with the rind still on, a small apple, in wedges, a ripe plum or peach.

Also, a handful of fresh herbs, a few cloves of garlic and spoon full of butter, and/or a few spoonfulls of wine.

4. I wonder if the fruit would hold the bird upright, though?
Maybe a carved jicama would but I don't know about half a lemon or even an apple?

5. Do NOT use glass, ever. Plastic is also probably not good
since if the heat doesn't melt it, it will volatize all the nasty chemicals in it.

Your best bet, if you insist on this method, is draining a small V8 juice can, filling it with beer, and using that--label off, of course.

Personally, I've had the best results from stuffing them with rice pilaf. I have never had a dry game hen, either. They're so small and cook so quickly they don't seem to have time to dry out.

8. This method is mostly about crisping the skin.

After making air pockets between skin and flesh and poking holes into the pockets of fat on the breast so the fat will render. ETA: A V8 can is also the right size.

9. Individual serving v-8 can?
You'd have to buy 6-8 (?) servings, but what the heck.

15. I've never had one of them gadgets.
One nice thing about the cans is you don't have to wash them. :P
