What kind of places sell root beer syrup?
I'm traveling to Scandinavia next week and will be visiting a friend who is American but has lived in Norway for many years. I wrote and asked if there was something she'd like from the States, and they are all easy to find except root beer syrup (she has a recipe that uses it).

I sure know where to find root beer, but would I have to go to a restaurant supply store to get the syrup? Would I be able to get it in sizes smaller than a keg?

Mail order won't work, because I'm leaving on Tuesday.

Thanks in advance!

1. If you have a coffee place or a bookstore that sells gourmet coffee supplies

you can see if they carry Torani syrups. They have a rootbeer. Some groceries carry them and Wal-mart may have Torani.

You might also have luck if you have an old style pharmacy locally...

Have a great trip!

this post also talks about other locations that sell Torani!

2. Target had it last year.
Also orange and I believe a cola syrup. They were carrying a soda carbonation machine of some type, so sold the syrups. I bought root beer and orange on clearance in the late summer/early fall. I don't know if they would still have it or not.

5. I was at Target this evening and didn't check in the area where they have
the soda making machines.

OK, I guess I'm going back tomorrow.

4. Bed Bath & Beyond sells Soda Stream syrups

And root beer is one of the ones we've been able to get there, both regular and sugar free (with Splenda). Their root beer is pretty good, similar to A&W and IBC. Theirs come in half liter bottles and a capful (I have no idea how much that is) flavors a liter of carbonated water.

Other places are now carrying SodaStream - check in your area: http://www.sodastreamusa.com/where_to_buy.aspx

If you had time, Prairie Moon sells concentrated flavors that you can add your choice of sweetner to, and sweetened syrups or unsweetened (sweetened with neotame). http://www.prairiemoon.biz/

7. Pappy's Sassafras syrup is available at Kroger in the coffee/tea
aisle as well as the local health food store. It tastes like root beer to me.

8. That sounds good!
I'll try it. I was looking for a natural root beer syrup for my soda stream. Not very hard looking 'cuz I'm pretty happy with juice and tisane for flavor.

I was just there last week. :hide:

Really... My SO is a rootbeer fanatic and we stop in when we are in that neighborhood. And for a Sat afternoon in an obscure business park they seemed to have a steady flow of customers. Maybe they are on to something...Rootbeer trending big?

13. Thanks, everyone!
I happened to be walking past a Williams-Sonoma, and they had soda syrups in the window--including root beer. I bought a 750 ml bottle.
