Woo hoo!! Better half has gone shopping!
Poor thing has a 1 1/2 dirt road ride back and forth, but he left with the bags and the list and will be back later tonight.

We have been out of pretty much everything for 4 or 5 days, so I am really excited. The store he is going to has limited supplies, so he will undoubtably improvise a few things, but that's OK.

I had to make menus with the handicap of having a stove that is not working, but I think it looks good for the next couple of weeks.

It doesn't take much to make me happy.

Menus:

Cobb Salad
Fresh Bread
Mixed Berries

Chicken Kebabs with Mango Chutney
Naan

Roast Beef Wraps
Coleslaw
Tomatoes

Pork Chops with Red Cabbage
Applesauce
Spaetzle

Lemon Grilled Chicken
Tomato & Melon Salad

Cheese & Crackers
Warm Spinach Salad with Chicken

Chicken Salad

BBQ Pork with noodle cakes
Green Bean Salad

Guacamole
Chicken & Tomatillo Tostados

Between having these as first nighters, then a few leftover nights, we should be good for the next 2 weeks at least.

I am desperate for some fruits and vegetables.

:woohoo:

1. Great menus!
What'd you end up with, grocery-wise?

:hi:

2. Well, he did all right in general.

I wanted, but did not get, a rotisserie chicken (which I can make at least 3 meals out of).

He couldn't find the blue cheese, flour tortillas or tomatillos (note that the town he went to is over 50% hispanic, so I have serious doubts about the last two not being there).

He forgot the butter and the crackers.

He didn't like the look of the avocados, so bought corn on the cob instead.

Boneless, skinless chicken breasts arrived with bones and skin (that's actually ok, as I can make stock).

And he indulged himself in some very expensive lamb chops, his reward for doing all of this.

But it's all good and I will start cooking again tonight. There is something so comforting about having a full larder.

3. Yes, as to full larder,
I recall years ago, before marrying my 1st, his 7-8 year old son stayed with us occasionally, and was SO RELIEVED when we'd come home with grocery bags. Told me something(s) about care he received from his mother.

4. I had a similar experience with my daughter, who came to me at age 7 as well.
I don't think she had ever eaten something that was not either passed through the car window or poured out of a can. She loved to go to the store with me and would just stand in awe in the middle of the produce section.

5. Another memory; thanks.
Taking infant daughter to grocery with me, 'introducing' her: 'Amy, this is an apple!' And after 2d daughter was born, swearing I'd not take 2 kids to grocery w me? Knew I shouldn't swear! EVERY WEEK! They were (and are) pretty good, tho! And now call me for recipes. LOVE that!
