Juicing folks: is there some secret to juicing greens? |
|
Maybe it's just my juicer, it's a juice fountain. But I find I have a hard time getting the greens to go to juice, mostly they wind up in the pulp container.
I'm considering pulverizing them in the blender and adding them into the juice.

1. I've only added greens to pineapple juice or apple ginger juice |
|
in the champion juicer, otherwise I just throw stuff in the vitamix blender. It's worked okay those two ways, but I have not done straight greens. I usually do the powder additions or mint chlorophyll for green in my juice.

2. I just do a bit at a time and sort of compress them |
|
like you were going to chiffonade them with a knife. Then I make sure I have something firm like carrot go in right after them. That seems to work.

3. You're not going to get a lot of juice out of them because they're mostly fiber |
|
Most people add the greens to other things like beets and berries, something that disguises the flavor quite nicely while giving them the benefits of the juice.
My own complaint about juicing everything instead of eating the whole fruit and veg is that you do miss out on the fiber. As an adjunct to a good diet it's great. As the whole diet itself, it's not so great.
