I rescued enough fruit from my garden ahead of tonight's deluge to make a large bowl of this mixed fruit salad. Everything is from my yard.
The ingredients:
Bosc Pear chunks (white with brown skin)
Red Delicious Apple chunks (white with red skin)
Paw Paw chunks (yellow)-- soft texture, a lot like mango, with a "tropical fruit flavor" -- tastes like banana, pineapple, and mango.
Blackberries
Red Raspberries
Golden Raspberries
Arctic Kiwi (small green fruit cut in half)-- tastes just about like the fuzzy kiwis from the store, but only the size of a grape.
Litchi Tomato (large red berry front and center)- a rare tomato relative, tastes like a blend of watermelon, tart cherry, and a really fruity variety of cherry tomato like Sunsugar or Isis Candy.
Autumn Olive (small red berries)- taste very similar to pomegranate.
BTW, it's delicious. I ate this bowl after I took the photo. Plenty left for breakfast tomorrow.
The only fruit yet to come this year is the American Persimmon, which won't be ready for another 4 weeks (mid to late November). Persimmon bread or Persimmon pudding for Thanksgiving - another yum.
