Pho
My daughter is making some even as we speak. For the last week she has talked about nothing else. The recipe seems remarkably complicated, but it is essentially chicken soup, no? Have you eaten it? Do you make your own? Tell me, tell me!

1. Like it, don't make it.
Seems basically to be chicken soup, 'garnishes' added later. Haven't checked recipes; little restaurant around here called Pho. For a couple of weeks, I had cravings for it, WITHOUT MEAT. Will likely get back to it.

2. Never tried to make it
I've been to many Vietnamese restaurants and love it. Unless your local market is pretty well stocked, you might have a problem finding authentic ingredients. Most Asian markets should have what you need and usually somewhere near the Asian market is one or two Vietnamese restaurants where you can get the real deal. Be sure and order Vietnamese coffee at the same time.

5. Vietnamese coffee is so, so good...
sigh. One of the best things I've ever drunk in a restaurant...

3. You're right, it's chicken soup with all sorts of stuff in it, served in a washtub
I adore it but it's too much to eat in one sitting. It's not just Granny's chicken soup, either, the recipe for the stock is also incredibly involved and every pho joint has a different one.

There are some things that are best left to the experts. Pho is one of them.

4. Pho is beef soup, but there is a chicken version. I actually prefer the beef.
But I leave out the tendon and tripe Yech!!!!

6. the pho here at one of the local joints is addictive - the
place is always packed. And it's very reasonable.

What amuses me is that this is one of the few threads I've seen here in C and B where the consensus is to buy it out, rather than make it!
