I never knew 2 year olds were so fun!

My son will be two next month. He is such a riot, pretty much around the clock. His latest thing is when he eats blueberries. He picks up a little one and sort of says 'so cute' in a really high pitched babyish voice. Eats it. Picks up a big one, says 'bbbbbig blueberry' in his deepest, most gravelly voice. Eats it. Repeat for a large bowl of berries. It's so funny.

With all his new language skills, social skills, and physical development he's so much fun to play with. And his personality is really shining through: very energetic, VERY mischievous, always pushes boundaries, loves to snuggle and give hugs & kisses, and all-around sunny & happy.

Seriously, I never knew a two-year old would be so much fun to be around til I was a dad. I've loved being with him from day one, but it just keeps getting better.

1. I like 2 year olds, too.

They are really becoming their own person. Language skills are developing. They are a riot. I could do without the throw down temper tantrums, but hey, I guess that is part of it, too.

2. Yes they are so much fun UNTIL

they hit 8 or 9..For the 12 years after those, you will be on a runaway rollercoaster with some wheels off the track..and no brakes..

You get them back when they grow up, but the years between 9-21 are a trip.. Ours are grown now, and I do miss the toddler & baby years..

When ours were little, we grew a garden, and one son would always apologize to HIS veggie before he ate it.. "Sorry mr Carrot"..crunch!

3. They're great.

My youngest is almost 2. No more babies for me, so I'm really enjoying every last minute of this wonderful age.

4. They are a riot! My two year old thinks she lives in a nudist colony.

I spend the majority of my day redressing her. Your blueberrry story made me LOL!!

5. Our little neighbor, Dale did a daily striptease

His Mom would dress him,. feed him breakfast, and before you knew it there would be a pair of shorts, a shirt, and then the underoos laying on the sidewalk in front of the house..

My son would holler "MOM..Dale's naked again..Call Nancy"..

He was about 3 then.. (This happened in another time, sadly...a time when kids went outside with the neighbor kids after breakfast.. ran off to play..and returned for lunch...after lunch the little ones napped for an hour or so, and then went back out until dark..)

7. That sounds like heaven.

And that is basically what I remeber doing as a child.

Is the world really that much more dangerous now, or have we just been oversensitized by a sensationalist media? Seriously, I cannot bear to have my children (2 and 4) out of my eye sight when we are in public, much less run off to play with the neighbor kids. And I don't consider myself to be high strung or unusually fearful. No wonder the kids are bored and I am exhausted all the time. :(

9. We even had a creek at the park near our street

and we never worried that someone would drown. They took GLASS jars down there and collected tadpoles..We would wait for them to "frog-ify" and then they would release them back into the creek..

As my boys got older, they would take off on their bikes (all 3 of them) and go exploring in the "rockpiles" about 5 miles from here.. We never let them wander off as a singleton..

I do think we ahve been conditioned to be scared of everyone and everything.. But then there are some pretty awful people..we just hear about ALL of them ALL the time..

I guess I took a fatalistic approach.. Knew that the boys would take risks..but I always had my fingers crossed.. As a result, they are all leaders..no one is timid, and they have a crazy. wacky childhood to look back on:silly:

6. We're going through that with my 2 year old

My older son did the same thing at that age. It's not so bad to deal with during the day, but in the morning I almost always wake up to a soaked, naked toddler who has flung the rejected diaper out of the crib along with his jammies.

8. My youngest was doing that a few months ago.

We have progressed to only partial daytime nudity now. He is almost potty trained :woohoo: So he puts the potty seat on the toilet, takes his pants and underpants off and climbs up. When he is finished, he does not put his pants back on, just runs about the house with it all flapping in the breeze.

12. 2 year olds are suppossed to be naked

what's that matter with you people?

but really, this is the kind of thing that made me stay home with my kids. sleep when they need to, eat when they need to, learn to wear clothes on their own, stuff like that. free. kids should be free.

13. My reason too.. and when my "baby" was in high school, I quit again

I wanted to go to his football practices and to be able to go to out of state tournaments with his club soccer team.. and to be home when he "chose to favor us with his presence" after school...between football practice...home for a snack.. and then off to soccer practice.. (he was one busy guy)..and he did not drive (his choice) until his senior year..

After they are grown & gone, the house and your time will be all yours, but you cannot go back and grab those moments.. Gotta take 'em when they present themselves..

(and I was also lazy..it's a hassle to schlep kids to sitters, and try to get them up and ready to go at a certain time..)

10. Every age is fun.

2YO's are now getting the idea of communication and that taste of independence. Lots of fun. Enjoy it. Take lots of pictures!

11. mine were sweeties at 2

my son used to hide under the coffee table with a book and just look at pictures...and then he would spin himself into nausea...(we called it "baby high")

my daughter was more verbal and she was a big time hugger....loved giving and getting hugs...which we loved too!
