WTF is up with teenagers talking 90 miles a second

I transported my 16 yr old daughter and a 15 year old male friend from one side of the city to another. They talked the entire way, both going over 160 wpm. I literally couldn't understand a word of it. I accused them of being on meth but they said they were wired on sugar. Given they were coming home from a fast-food restaurant that server sugar stuff, I tend to believe them.

I talked to another parent and she said it was rampant.

1. They are in a hurry

Their brains aren't actually fully developed in certain decision making areas (according one of my anatomy and physiology professors). And the ideas and words hit 'em fast. They evidently feel this need to get it out fast.
