Anybody read Alfie Kohn's "Unconditional Parenting"?

Holy crap. Started reading this last night and recognized so much of how I was parented, and what we're passing on to our daughter, and the ways in which I want to change how I interact with her, as a parent.

Anybody else read this and had the same kind of experience, want to talk about it?

1. A psychologist recommended this book to me. She said she thought

it was a close match to my parenting style. Flattered, I started reading and was fascinated. I have to admit that the style, in many ways, is how I would like to parent, but it's not how I actually do. I am glad that she recognized the similarity, though, because it's filled a gap in the parenting books and discussions I've had with friends. Almost nobody I know *irl* parents like this, and much of it appeals to me. Punishment and taking away privileges just didn't feel right to me, and when I watched friends and relatives use that, it seemed they sometimes created privileges just for the sake of using them to remove them later on as kids acted up. I'd like to know more about your reaction to it and how it's helped you parent.

2. I liked it because it changed my perspective

I don't think I've always followed a WWAD (what would Alfie do) philosophy, but it did really change my perspective behind praise, rewards, etc.
