I don't believe in 'tough love'
We are facing some tough problems with our teen. We went to see a counselor on how to deal with them. She proposed some 'tough love' type actions like taking away the computer, etc. I refused. My husband was pretty furious at me. We had a new crisis and everyone said that 'tough love' was the worst thing we could have done. Thankfully, I stopped it before we tried it.

1. Not knowing what you're situation is it's hard to comment

But it sounds like you should definitely find a new counselor.

I have a 15 year old son - and fortunately we have a really good therapist who's made such a huge difference in his life. The difference between a good counselor and one who's not good fit is something you just can't underestimate.

2. I agree.
If you're not comfortable with the counselor's advice, find one who is a better match for your family.

As for your husband, maybe use this as an opportunity to decide together what you'd expect from and what you'd like to see in a new counselor.
