File Sharing under linux
I'll admit it - one of the main things that kept me from making the switch from windows was file sharing software. I needed my winmx, and my soulseek, and my emule. The other obstacle was Quicken. And I never figured out a Free replacement for that. I use Crossover Office to run Quicken in linux - it's just too convenient for me to give up. Fortunately it runs just fine in the (not an) emulator.

But for file sharing software, there's no way in hell anyone can convince me windows has anything better to offer.

Soulseek? Try the "Nicotine" client in linux. Rock solid. Same network, same people, same files.

Winmx? Don't use it anymore since Nicotine has all the music one could ever want, and then some. But I understand it runs cromulently under WINE.

Edonkey/Emule/Overnet? Easiest of all. { apt-get -t testing install amule-utils } on a debian system. Unless yer on Sarge or Sid - then omit the "-t testing" bit. I can't imagine it's much tougher to get worked out on a RPM-based distro.

So what sort of file sharing stuff do you folks use in yer Free/free OSen?

1. I fire up Gnutella from time to time.
Mostly I buy music off iTunes. Easier and less risk of getting sued by the CorpoBorg.

2. Apollon
You'll also need giFT and the giFT plugins for the various networks it is able to access.
