Best free message board/forum?
Hi everyone, hope I'm posting in the right group--I've been given the task of setting up a discussion forum to link to a set of online courses for a local business. The project manager of the online course software recommended one free message board system that is tres 1996 (really ugly, cascading setup, no spellcheck, no editing after posting, etc.); I think there are better ones out there--but which ones have a good track record? I've been leaning toward Aceboard or Yuku (EZBoard) or Bravenet. Anybody know what's good? Thanks! :hi:

1. Have you looked at PHPBB?

www.phpbb.com - just be sure to keep it up to date as when vulnerabilities are detected, the authors will update the code, and you need to install them to stay safe. And due to the popularity of the software, and the easy availability, it tends to be attacked fairly regularly.

2. Another vote for PHPBB here.
Have set it up a couple of times. Totally agree about the updates though.

4. I also recommend PHPBB
Fine-grained control over permissions, easy setup, some very nice quality free themes and its popularity helps insure many of your students will already be familiar with its use. As others have noted, keep it up to date though!
